Director of Youth Ministries


Youth Ministry Mission Statement

With a love for the Lord, the Director of Youth Ministries of Lombard Christian Reformed Church is called to expand and empower the development, direction, and education of the youth and young adult ministries of the church. With an emphasis on youth, this ordained or non-ordained staff person (depending on qualifications) will facilitate spiritual growth within our youth membership through development and integration of various youth ministries.


Mandate of the Director of Youth Ministries

The Director of Youth Ministries is to be the person whose primary purpose in ministry is to help lead youth and young adults into a closer relationship with God. It is our prayer that this relationship in turn will lead them to an acknowledgment of Jesus Christ as Lord of their life and to Profession of Faith. The Director of Youth Ministries will do this by providing relational leadership in directing youth ministry programming and developing youth ministry leaders at Lombard Christian Reformed Church (LCRC).



The following qualifications are desired for candidates of the full time Director of Youth Ministries position at LCRC:

  • Must be a professing believer who walks daily with the Lord and is an example for others
  • Must have confidence in God’s calling to this ministry
  • Must accept the Bible as God’s infallible Word; the full and complete revelation of God
  • Must be in agreement with the Covenant for Office Bearers and the creeds (crcna.org/welcome/beliefs/creeds) and confessions of the Christian Reformed Church and will become a member of Lombard Christian Reformed Church
  • Must display an ability to work with youth, young adults, volunteer leaders, and the church council
  • Must have a passion for leading youth and developing their spiritual growth
    • Being able to help students grow spiritually regardless of students’ biblical knowledge/where they may stand in their faith journey
  • Must demonstrate intelligence and sound judgment
  • Must have a minimum of a bachelor of arts degree in youth ministry or related field of study
  • Must have at least 3 - 5 years’ experience in a youth leadership role
  • Possess strong organizational skills in planning, recruiting, and leading
  • Possess strong communication skills (written, verbal, social media)
Expectations and Responsibilities
  • Develop, guide, and equip leaders for junior high, high school, and post high school ministries
  • Define the theme for the year’s ministries
  • Partner with other youth ministry leaders for cohesiveness and symmetry amongst ministries within LCRC (GEMS, Cadets, Sunday School, etc)
  • Own all communication:
    • To the congregation about activities and how the congregation can support them
    • To the families of the youth programs with details of all events
    • Monthly report to the Youth Director Support Team
  • Engage with the youth outside of church and youth meetings - attend various sporting events, concerts, extracurriculars to invest in their personal lives
  • Provide youth with opportunities to deepen their connection with each other and God’s word
  • Equip and encourage student leadership roles
  • Coordinate events such as service projects, mission trips, community outreach, activity nights, retreats, etc.
  • Encourage youth who are mature in their Christian walk to make public Profession of Faith
  • Give direction and accountability for youth leaders in our youth and young adult ministries
  • Promote service and church involvement by creating consistent opportunities for youth to serve
  • Facilitate, foster, and unify relationships between all students, regardless of where they attend school or church
  • Intentionally develop relationships with individuals, families, groups, and leaders
  • The Director of Youth Ministry should plan on continuing education courses/events throughout the year; specific goals will be set each year with the Youth Ministry Support Team


  • The Director of Youth Ministry will be accountable to the Youth Ministry Support Team who in turn is accountable to the Elders of LCRC
  • Meet with the Youth Ministry Support Team and submit a report monthly
  • Meet regularly with the Pastor to ensure good communication and synchrony of ministries
  • While fulfilling the objectives of his or her role, this position will work in cooperation with other staff, council members, ministry leaders, and volunteers
  • Flexible hour requirements; most meetings will be at night after leaders’ work schedules and students’ school schedules
  • Regular meetings with youth leaders for planning and execution
  • Focus programming on the following Youth Ministry Models:
    • Small group
    • Youth Worship
    • Student Leadership
    • Mentoring
