Welcome To Lombard CRC

If you are planning to worship with us for the first time, we would love to get to know you better. Welcome cards are available in the pew. Please take the time to fill one out and place it in the offering plate or leave it at the Welcome Center on your way out. Be sure to stop by the Welcome Center in the narthex to learn more about us and how you can get connected.

Join us after the service in the Fellowship Hall for a time of refreshments. A Nursery for infants and toddlers is available in the southeast wing. A Cry Room for parents with infants is at the right rear of the sanctuary. Children’s Church for children 3 – 6 years old meets part way through the morning service in the southeast wing of the building.

Today

Up in the sky -  it’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s ___________.” You know the answer to that one. He stood for truth, justice and the American way.  Do you know that the comic book creators of Superman drew their inspiration from Moses? It was Superman who stood up for what was right. Of course, back in 1992-93, Superman was killed off by DC Comics. Are truth and justice part and parcel of the American way today? The way of Christ is the way of grace and truth. Who will pick up the challenge to stand for what is right? Will we?

We will witness the baptism of Payton at the 11:15 AM worship service.

Next Sunday

The worship season of Lent begins. We will focus this season on what are popularly called, “The seven deadly sins.” Our first reaction is that these don’t sound so deadly: ‘gluttony,’ really, is more of a problem than say, ‘racism’? Shouldn’t we take a little ‘pride’ in ourselves? But these are referred to as capital vices because they are the sins that are seen as the origin (head) of the other sins. When we recognize the sin in us, we need not despair, but find freedom. For we can confess and repent, trusting the counsel and grace of God. In Matthew 27:18 we read: For he knew it was out of envy that they had handed Jesus over to him. This first deadly sin results in the cross.

Frank will be making profession of faith at the 11:15 AM service.

We celebrate the Lord’s Supper, if you are shut in and would like to receive communion, please let Pastor John or an elder know.

Life at Lombard

Something to Take Note of

Lent – The purple on the cross reminds us of Christ’s passion, that on the cross we worship Christ the King.

This Week in Adult Ed there is no official presentation. Enjoy a time of fellowship and join us next week when Rick Van Til will join us to present about the work at Rehoboth Christian School.

Fellowship and Outreach

Women’s Bible Study meets on Wed. evenings from 7:00-9:00 PM.  We just began a new study of The Book of Ruth by Kelly Minter. If you are interested in joining us, please contact Jan.

Variety Night/Chili Supper - Be sure to mark Sat., March 10th on your calendars. Come out and see what talents, hidden or not so hidden, your fellow church members have. All ages are welcome to participate in this fun evening. Be sure to check your mailboxes or the bulletin board for more information. Questions?? Contact Ida or Kathy.

Lombard CRC will be serving at PADS on February 26th and 27th.  The Cadets will be serving dinner.  Please prayerfully consider volunteering for one of the overnight or breakfast shifts as help is always needed during those shifts. Please contact Steve.

Lombard Seniors – Tired of winter?  Come join us for our next social event on Wed., Feb. 29 at 12 noon.  We will have a sub sandwich lunch and fellowship.  Then we will go to Hausermann’s Orchid Greenhouse.  This will not be an organized tour.  You can go at your own pace.  Cost:  lunch - $5.00, Hausermann’s – free.

The Women's Book Club’s next meeting will be on Wed., March 14.  They will be discussing the book No Foot Prints in the Sand by Henry Nalaielua.  Henry Nalaielua was branded as leprous at the age of 10.  The book tells about his journey that took him to a remote settlement on the Hawaiian island of Molokai. The meeting will be from 7:30-9:00 PM.  We welcome new members!  Please contact Jan with any questions.

The Marriage conference was a success and the dust has finally settled.  With the realization that there was a lot of information to process and we husbands don’t multi-task well, Lombard is here to help.  Starting next Sunday, Feb 26th through May, there will be a class offered during the Sunday School hour for those that came to the conference.  It will help to flush out the principles presented at the conference.  If you couldn’t make the conference and would like to catch a taste of what you missed, feel free to join us.  The class will be presented in the Agape Café.  Husbands fear not, I checked and there are no little round tables.

The office will be closed on Monday, Feb. 20th.

Rock tonight at 6:00 PM. The topic will be - Priorities.
