Colorado Challenge Day 4

Posted by Lombard CRC, General on

Today started out with rappelling.  We left soon after breakfast.  I'll let Kelly tell you about her experience in her own words:

So we went rappelling today and it was totally terrifying. However a lot of people decided to push themselves and it was amazing to see everyone up on the rock going down the 125+ foot tall cliff that we were going down for the day. I have to say that it really was quite an activity in trust and that is why many kids, myself in particular, found this to be a very difficult activity. It was not that bad to strap on your harness and helmet and climb up the very rocky and steep path to get to the top. I managed to get hooked in but then I wasn't able to step over the ledge. I had been praying all day for strength and just for God to show himself in my life. Thankfully he showed himself, mind you he chose to show himself when I was petrified with fear and didn't notice it at the time. It was more than me not trusting the ropes to keep me from falling it was more that I need to trust god that he will be my "rope" in life and keep me from falling and giving me anymore than I could handle. He even managed to give us all a good laugh when we attempted to find how much a hippo weighed and the answer was clearly "A Lot".

After our whole group had gone once, we ate a lunch that was packed for us by camp staff : sandwiches, chips, granola bar and a juice box.  We ate at the bottom of the rappelling site right by a river, while we waited for those who wanted to go up again to finish up.

After lunch we got in our vans and headed out to the rock climbing site which was about a half hour away.  It was a hot day today so we made sure to double up on the water and sunscreen.  We had many students gear up and head up the routes.  They enjoyed cheering each other on as they each attempted to reach the top.  Many again overcame their fears and were able to meet their goals.  It was great to see them be so encouraging to each other.

On our way home we stopped at Sonic for some shakes.  We all deserved a treat after a hard day of work in the heat.  We got back to camp with about 45 minutes to get ready for dinner.  Chapel and small groups were moved up an hour earlier tonight because we are all getting up early tomorrow to head to whitewater rafting.

We will be posting more pictures of today's activities to Facebook, with the shortened schedule for this evening we haven't had a lot of time to share all our pictures.

Better go get some rest.
