Colorado Challenge Day 3

Posted by Lombard CRC, General on

We started the day blowing up balloons to decorate Calvin Veldman's bunk to celebrate his birthday.

We had a short morning devotional in the chapel and then headed out to the ropes course.  Many of our students were able to overcome their fears and climb up to great heights. The course consisted of several segments capping off with a zip line.  It took a group a bit longer to get everyone through because one of the climbing elements broke, so we had to wait for the crew to replace them.  The crew working was great and kept us informed of what was happening, no one was hurt or at any larger risk and except for having to wait a bit longer on the platforms, everyone had a great time.  As a result of the extended wait, our leaders were not able to participate in the ropes course.  You should have seen all their disappointment.

When we finally got off the ropes course, we only had to wait about 10 minutes for lunch to be served, hot dogs and corn dogs today.  The kids seemed to enjoy today's the most so far.

After lunch we had to split up into two groups who wanted to play paintball and another group who was going to run to Walmart for some supples.  Most of those who chose paintball were doing it for the first time, so there was a lot of trepidation. Once you get hit for the first time, some of that anxiety goes away.  Although we have plenty of welts to show for it, everyone had a good time and I dare say even enjoyed it.

Before dinner, we had to split up the group again so we could all who wanted could go horseback riding.  It was an easy trail around camp, but some found their horses were really the ones in control.  Although frustrating for some, it was the favorite part of others' day.  It was a great way to end the day's activities.

We ended the night as usual with chapel, worship and small groups.  In the middle of the talk during chapel we had a brief storm roll through, with thunder and lightning.  The speaker said it was God's way of accenting his words.  By the time we had to walk back the rain had stopped, so we didn't have to get wet at night.
