Colorado Challenge Day 1

Posted by Lombard CRC, General on

Our day started out bright and early.  Well maybe not so bright but definitely early.  We met at Midway Airport at 4:00 AM (sorry drivers!).  There was a surprising large amount of travelers at the airport for the time and day.  After a smooth check in process we had a an easy time through security with a few exceptions.  Parents, you'll be glad to know that the kids now have an understanding that the TSA does not look kindly on full size tubes of toothpaste and full size aerosol cans of deodorant.  They especially don't like pocket knives,  you'll get about a half hour of extra attention for that one. Eventually our entire group was reunited at our gate, and we had about an hour to spare, enough time to get some snacks - can't really call it breakfast can we.

After a fairly unenventful flight, we landed in Denver, where we had to gather around 60 people (we were combined with the group from Elmhurst CRC at this point) to wait for our rental vans.  We had to stretch out our drive to the camp because they don't allow the groups to get in until 3pm so we took a detour for extended lunch and exploring.

We finally arrived at camp and got settled in.  After some free time to explore the grounds, we quickly arrived at dinner time.  We then had to participate in a mandatory fire drill, don't worry we nailed it.  After some more free time we had some time for worship and learning in the chapel. There was more free time scheduled before small groups were supposed to meet at 11p.m.  We decided as a group to do our small group immediately and then head to bed.  I think this is the earliest we as a group have called it a night.  But we were all tired from the long day, but excited for the week to come.
